Abusive men who look for the next punching bag often misinterpret the phrase „In that culture, spousal abuse is a private matter”. „Private matter” doesn’t mean that the wife just takes the abuse and keeps mum about it — it means that the problem is privately resolved; meaning, she, or her family, or her friends will fight back until you no longer stray out of line. And, if you can’t keep your hands from hitting people, I suggest you think hard about what you like better: a night in jail or a fractured skull.
